Confrontation

Dance-Theater Performance

Premiere: October 2017
Running time: 30 min

A production featuring 1 dancer and 4 musicians, an original music and fusion of two styles: theater and dance.

“Confrontation” is a dance-theatre performance based on Carl Jung’s psychology, and it researches the visible spaces, a place where it binds the conscious and unconscious and the importance of dealing with your own shadow. The performance itself themes the invisible, unnoticed, forgotten and imaginary as potential place of transformation, inside which it questions the possibility of achieving the internal balance.

Memories, dreams, reflections

As a child I used to play with a mirror. I would take it into my hands, walk and follow my moves in its reflection. It seemed as if I was walking on the ceiling, on sky. The biggest challenge was - jumping from the threshold and fall amongst clouds. I wasn't scared. Fear comes later.
Today I stand in front of that same mirror. Confronted with my fears, I am making a step towards it, and I fall, fall into my memories.

Memories /
I am twelve years old. It is a period of war. Sitting in a basement with my mother and sister. Without electricity. The only thing that we have in that moment is a candle and a battery powered transistor. We turn it on from time to time to get the latest news. Sometimes we allow ourselves the luxury of some music. “ Proljece na moje rame slece, Djurdjevak zeleni svima osim meni…(Spring is landing on my shoulders, Lilies are blooming for everyone but me ”, is playing on the radio. “To me neither.” – I am thinking to myself. Sound of the alarm sirens and grenades stops the music. A trace of light is entering through a small window. Trapped in the darkness, I am looking towards that window. For a moment a women turns up within that light. She is stunning and has that freedom look, like a fairy. She is wearing an amazing dress. I am trying to get rid of the shackles of darkness so that I can leave with the good fairy into a better tomorrow. And here it is, shackles break, and in the next moment I am finding myself in the refugee column. Still searching for that trace of light and that beautiful woman. The light is getting closer now and it shines almost the whole of myself. But, all of a sudden the light disappears and there is nothing but darkness again in front of me. Fear, uncertainty, not managing, loss, nothing.
Dreams /
The earliest dream that I can remember and that will keep my attention forever fell into a dream when I was five years old. I am sleeping. It is soft and comfortable. All of a sudden bellow me little chickens turn up. Little yellow chickens are like a feather duvet cover. A few years later, short period after the war, another dream comes up, a dream that tortured me for a long period of time. A little chicken grows into a huge, scary black bird. This bird has a face of a woman. It is making weird moves with its claws; it opens its wings and tries to fly, to set itself free. The bird from this dream is entering my everyday life and becomes an obsession.
Thoughts /
As a child I did not understand the symbol of a bird. I was scared of it because I did not understand that it wanted to give me its wings for a flight to freedom. This day I know that the goal of my dream has been to bring into darkness as much light as possible. Today I am a bird with amazing, lavish wings that flies across the sky of this world without any limits and impediments.
